On March 20th at 3.06am (UTC time), Spring has officially arrived.
Nature is blooming
With the explosion of scents and colors we also rediscover our connection with nature: hikes in parks or in the mountains, walks on the lake shore or on the beach and the desire to be outdoors doing physical activity
Gardening also offers us a healthy link to our "green" side. Taking care of plants makes us feel better and pleasantly busy, improving our mood.
Aromatic plants and herbs are also fundamental in mixology and are some of the main ingredients used to create original and delicious cocktails.
Five natural elements used in Spirito Cocktails
- Mint
It’s one of the most popular plants for cocktails.
In the ready-to-drink Mojito by Spirito Cocktails, the pleasant aromatic and floral scent is obtained thanks to an infusion of fresh mint leaves. This process allows the active ingredients and aromas to be extracted from the plant, contrary to what would happen if the mint were macerated.
- Ginger
Ginger is one of the strongest and most aromatic plants, with a "fruity" spiciness that recalls the scent of citrus fruits. In ancient times, it was a premium spice and for this reason it was taxed as a luxury good, making it available only to wealthy people.
The most famous cocktail where you can find it is the Moscow Mule. What makes
A mixture of pure Italian vodka filtered over coals, lime juice and ginger hot infused for ten days; this releases all its intensity and gives a unique taste to the drink.
- Limes
The lime is a large family of citrus fruits of Asian origin, which derives from the cross between the lemon tree and the cedar. Its fruits, which can be easily confused, are mainly recognized by their color (greener) and shape (rounder) compared to a traditional lemon. It is the secret ingredient of some legendary cocktails such as, for example, the Daiquiri: in addition to Caribbean white rum and raw cane sugar, they represent a delicate and fragrant mixture.
- Redberry
A small berry, which contains many nutrients for the health and well-being of the person. Redberry juice is also the basis of some cocktails, such as our Cosmo Thai, where the acidity of the berry balances perfectly with the floral notes of the lychee liqueur, leaving the mouth fresh and clean after each sip.
- Mango
A sweet tropical fruit, with an unmistakable flavor, which takes us on a journey to exotic destinations. For this reason, we created Gin Sensation: a drink inspired by the tradition of Polynesian tiki cocktails. A delicious mix of fresh mango puree and an artisanal dry gin. Lychee liqueur with floral scents, ginger syrup and lime juice complete the recipe for a satisfying and multi-sensory experience.
The jury of the International Taste Institute, with sommeliers from all over the world, awarded it with the Superior Taste Award, a prize that certifies products that excel in sensorial characteristics, visual appearance, smell, taste and consistency.
A gesture as simple as it is engaging: the toast is a true ritual of happiness and sharing. Raising your glass and bringing it closer to another has been much more than a sign of good luck over the centuries.
How did this tradition start?
The ritual of raising glasses has very ancient origins. In the Assyrian-Babylonian era, stories of toasts made as a sign of devotion and gratitude to the gods are documented by finds, bas-reliefs and engravings.
Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt, Greeks and Romans transformed this ritual into something similar to what we see nowadays. Drinking 'to someone’s health' derives from the ancient religious rite of drinking in honor of the gods at ceremonial banquets of Greeks and Romans.
In the 2nd century A.D., the Latin author Apuleius wrote:
«The first glass is for thirst; the second for joy, the third for pleasure; the fourth, for madness" handing down to us a classic toast in Ancient Rome that is still valid today.
The way of toasting, in fact, has not changed over time: the Romans used to raise their glasses to wish health and all the best to the guests and those present. Each country then followed this tradition adding some peculiar traits.
In China, for example, the cheers ritual is called "Ganbei", which literally means "to dry the glass". The oldest person raises the glass more than the other people and drinks it all in one gulp, placing the empty glass upside down, showing there is nothing left in it.
The Japanese version of "Ganbei" is "Kanpai" which adds some features, such as the good rule that another person must fill the glass, to demonstrate hospitality and empathy. Furthermore, the glass must be held up with both hands while it is poured, directing the attention to whoever is serving us, showing respect.
In Brazil it is common to order a large bottle to pour into very small glasses; a bizarre tradition that is dictated by a practical reason: in this way the drink does not heat up.
In Peru, drinking together is a gesture of intimacy, trust and esteem: everyone toasts and drinks from a single glass, alternating.
In past times, wine was accompanied by bread to reduce its acidity, and in England it still happens to see a piece of bread in the glasses. It is precisely from this custom that the English verb "to toast" derives.
Georgia is unquestionably the region that has taken this tradition to heart the most: it is customary to toast up to 20 or 30 times per meal and involve any foreign guests invited for lunch or dinner. This may be a bit too much!
Born as a flu remedy in the English colonies and used mostly in Northern Europe to overcome the dark days, hot cocktails are a comfort for every day, not only in the mountains area.
Let's find out the most famous hot drinks, perfect for pampering yourself during the cold winter evenings.
Tom and Jerry: a long tradition
A legendary cocktail highly appreciated especially in the United States.
The name of the drink is a tribute to Pierce Egan's book “Life in London” and the subsequent play Tom and Jerry, from 1821.
Made with eggs, sugar, rum, brandy and hot milk, this smooth cocktail is often topped with a generous sprinkling of nutmeg. Its rich, creamy flavor is like a warm hug in a cup. Served in a thick mug, Tom and Jerry is perfect for gathering friends and family around the fire for an unforgettable evening.
Eggnog: the King of Christmas Cocktails
This Christmas drink, also known as “chicken milk” is a timeless classic prepared with eggs, sugar, milk, cream, nutmeg and, of course, a touch of brandy or rum.
Eggnog is composed of egg and nog, an Old English term that indicated a type of very strong beer. The French-speaking term, lait de poule, meaning it is chicken's milk, derives from the ingredients that make up the drink.
Its creamy texture and sweet flavor make Eggnog a must-have during the winter holidays.
Add a touch of cinnamon and enjoy it with a freshly baked cookie for a great sensory experience!
Bombardino, the most popular Italian hot cocktail (especially in ski resorts), is a kind of eggnog. It is a drink based on cream, hot eggnog, brandy and coffee, with regional variations that change from area to area.
Hot Toddy: The Warm Remedy for Cold Evenings
When the cold hits, nothing beats a Hot Toddy to warm the soul.
This hot cocktail is a mix of whiskey, sugar, hot water, lemon and spices. The combination of these ingredients creates a drink that is a real remedy for winter sicknesses. In the book “How to Drink,” writer Victoria Moore describes it as “Vitamin C for health, with honey that soothes, and alcohol that numbs.”
A sip of Hot Toddy will immediately make you feel better and give you a pleasant sensation of warmth.
Irish Coffee: The Perfect Combination of Coffee and the Irish Spirit
A drink that combines the strength of coffee with the warmth of alcohol. Prepared with black coffee, sugar, Irish whiskey and a crown of whipped cream, this cocktail is a hymn to simplicity and elegance.
Legend has it in 1943, when chef Jose Sheridan decided to create a special drink to comfort passengers on a flight that had to return to Shannon due to bad weather.
The cocktail was so appreciated that once served everyone in the waiting room remained silent.
H.O.T. by Spirito Cocktails: The harmonious fusion between Whiskey and the sweet embrace of honey
An incredible mix of Whiskey, golden honey, fresh apple juice and a magical touch of spices such as ginger, cinnamon and star anise.
The heart of this extraordinary drink is American Whiskey which blends with the sweet embrace of honey. Fresh apple juice adds a fruity and refreshing note, balancing the cocktail perfectly.
Carefully selected spices add a magical touch: ginger brings a light touch of spiciness, cinnamon creates a sweetness that pairs elegantly with the deep flavor of Whiskey, while star anise gives an infusion of aromatic notes.

]]>Comparable to a novel to be read in one sitting, they tell new stories, characters and universes, but also habits and perspectives that immerse us in dreamy atmospheres.
Often, they describe the culinary passions of the protagonists, including those for some drinks, characterizing their personalities.
For this reason, Netflix opened Bites, a temporary restaurant in Los Angeles, where you could taste dishes and cocktails seen on TV, for a "from screen to table" experience.
Let’s discover the delicious drinks that our favorite characters sip in the series we love. Get ready to raise your glasses and discover behind-the-scenes secrets!
Sex and the City
One of the most famous television series related to cocktails is Sex and the City.
Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha: four women connected by a deep and special friendship, who used to meet in the trendiest bars in New York to tell each other their respective adventures.
On their table there always was a White Cosmo, a sweeter version of the Cosmopolitan, prepared with vodka, triple sec, grenadine and lemon. It became the most popular drink of the 90s.
Other trendy drinks in the show are Bellini, a mix of Prosecco and peach juice, and the Sex on the Beach, a sweet drink made with vodka, pineapple juice and orange juice. Margarita, Martini and Mojito are also must drinks popular in the series.
Mad Men
In Matthew Weiner's series which outlines the lives of some managers who work for the Sterling & Cooper advertising agency, Don Draper, the protagonist, prefers the Old Fashioned, a classic cocktail made with a mix of bourbon whisky, sugar, angostura and an orange peel. In one episode, he tried to create himself this cocktail (unfortunately in the 1960s there weren’t ready-to-drink Spirito Cocktails!)
A sip of this drink will take you directly into those atmospheres, with the great changes in American society experienced in that decade.
Breaking Bad
Turning to the dark side, we discover the "Blue Meth Martini", inspired by Professor White's narcotic serie. This Twist on the Martini Cocktail based on vodka dirtied with a top of blue curaçao is a tribute to the crystals and will trigger a chemical reaction in your palate!
Games of Thrones
In the fantasy world of Game of Thrones, punch is the undisputed star. "Dragon's Blood Punch" is the most requested drink in the Seven Kingdoms. This ruby red cocktail is a mix of spiced rum, orange juice, lime and a touch of grenadine. Just one sip of this powerful drink is enough to feel like a true ruler of Westeros.
Downton Abbey
In the British series dedicated to the events of the aristocratic Crawley family and the servants at their service, we find the "English Garden Fizz". This floral cocktail is made with gin, lime juice, sugar syrup, soda and a splash of liqueur elderflower. A true triumph of taste and class, for an alternative gem to the more common Sherry.
Will&Grace
It is one of the TV series that has left its mark on popular culture, bringing completely new themes to the small screen. Karen, Grace's rich assistant had a great passion for fashion, shopping and...Martini-s!
Her Dry Martini has become a true defining trait of this character: “Martini, honey, and don't waste any space with those olives.!”.
Scrubs
Scrubs was another precursor of the television revolution. Turk and J.D. are the symbol of friendship that wins above all else.
J.D.'s favorite cocktail is the Appletini, with a delicate and fruity flavor. Made with vodka, apple liqueur and Cointreau. The apple flavor makes this cocktail perfect for any occasion.
“Appletini please….easy on the tini”.
Take inspiration from these cocktails to delight your next evening. The stories of your favorite characters will mix with the enveloping flavour of a drink!
]]>Vodka Day has been
celebrated on this date since at least 2009, in honor of one of the most
appreciated distillates.
History of vodka
Poland and Russia were
the first countries to produce vodka.
The definition
“wodka” appears in texts written for the first time in 1405 in Poland.
The name, which
literally translated means "water" was an ironic euphemism to
indicate a light and clean-tasting distillate, which exceeded more than 50%
alcohol content. In 1520, there were already over sixty “official” distilleries
present in Gdansk (without counting the clandestine ones)
In the following
century, it was Tsar Alexei of Russia who promulgated a code which authorized
noble Russian landowners to own small productions for private use.
Its spread in Western
Europe is attributed to Napoleon who was introduced to it during the Russian
campaign of 1812. The emperor raided large quantities of this mysterious
transparent distillate to warm up and adapt to the cold Russian winter during
the battle retreat.
The first recipe was
made in Russia toward the end of the 9th century: the chemist Dmitry Mendeleev
discussed his thesis, entitled "On the combination of water and
alcohol", giving rise to 40% of the alcohol content.
How is vodka made from?
Vodka is obtained
from the processing of raw materials rich in starch and sugars, such as cereals
and potatoes. Once the solid part has been separated, fermentation is carried
out followed by a short rest period.
Then the distillation
begins, and this phase serves to eliminate substances different from alcohol,
and to allow vodka to take a neutral taste. The master distiller can establish how
many distillations are necessary.
This could be a very long
and expensive process, so the most used and useful method to purify the drink
consists of filtering the distillate using activated carbon.
The handcrafted Vodka
used by Spirito Cocktails
After the distillation
process, the vodka used in our cocktails is cold filtered three times over
activated charcoal to eliminate any type of aroma and impurity. The result is perfect
purification, with a distillate as pure and clear as water, which further
enhances the characteristics of all the cocktails made from this base.

artisanal quality ready-to-drink cocktails by Spirito Cocktails can help you if
you have difficulty recreating the recipe!
The art and magic of creating a drink has been for years an exclusive skill of bartenders that used to creat new combinations and transform classic cocktails into something new.
Revisiting a cocktail by changing the start ingredients or the preparation technique is called a "Twist".
There are several types of twist:
- Horizontal twist, when one or more ingredients are replaced with others of the same type. (For example, replacing a distillate with another distillate).
- Vertical twist, when a new category of ingredients - not included in the original recipe – is added. This "secret ingredient" can give new freshness to the cocktail, but at the same time it can bring an imbalance to the drink, so it must be evaluated carefully.
- Diagonal twist, when there is a replacement of an ingredient with another one, but with the same original purpose. For example, adding a product not cataloged in the sweeteners category to sweeten a drink.
Using one among the Spirito Cocktails as a base, you can also create your own twists and transform your evenings into unforgettable moments. Your ability to create unique and delicious drinks will make you the star of the home mixology.
Create the bar atmosphere at your home
Prepare a small area dedicated to cocktails and create an authentic and engaging atmosphere. Just like the famous “ballet”, twist on cocktails is an experience to be shared with other people!
Make sure you have some Spirito Cocktails drinks and the right glass for each one. Garnishes such as orange slices, lime and blueberries will make your cocktail sensational. If you have a shaker, a bar spoon or a jigger, the result will be amazing!

Thanks to the spread of cooking shows, there is a closer attention not only on the quality of the dishes we create, but also on the plating. However, some people forget something important: a good cocktail, such as a delicious dish, must be served in the right way for a "5 stars" service.
As each of us has a favorite dress, also a cocktail "wears" its own glass. It may seem irrelevant, but the shape and material of the glass we use is going to affect the taste of the cocktail we drink. It is indeed an important element of the tasting experience and it helps to valorize the cocktail’s appearance, stimulating the imagination and introducing us to a sort of "ritual". There is a proper glass for every situation!
What is the Right Type of Cocktail Glass to Use for a home dinner or aperitif? Let's see the most common ones used by barmen.
The tumbler is a particular glass with a slightly flared cylindrical or truncated cone shape, generally made with a very thick and resistant material. It is the "standard” glass that people keep in their cupboards for daily meals. Low and wide, it is ideal for cocktails served on the rocks: its dimensions are perfect for mixing a small amount of liquid with ice.
The old fashioned tumbler is a particular straight variant with a slightly rounded bottom. The capacity is approximately 300 ml. Cocktails such as Negroni, Milano-Torino or a timeless Old Fashioned should be poured into a low or old fashioned tumbler. This type of glass can also be suitable for drinks prepared with few ingredients.
The medium tumbler is a cylindrical, straight glass with a slightly rounded shape used for "medium-long" cocktails. Its capacity is approximately 370 ml and this is why its shape is more elongated. It represents the perfect glass for a Mojito or for cocktails served with the addition of soda such as Tropical Spritz, fruit drinks and Gin Sensation.
An icon: a real work of art, the main character of films and exhibitions. It has an inverted conical shape, with a long narrow stem resting on a flat base. The timeless martini glass is used for short drinks served in 100 ml and usually without ice, such as the Dry Martini and the Manhattan. This glass enhances the colors and aromas of the cocktail, giving the pleasure of enjoying the drink during a break. The glass should be held by the stem to prevent the drink from heating up too quickly.
The champagne goblet or Michelangelo goblet is a delicate and refined glass, with a capacity ranging from 8 to 12 cl. The very wide opening and the concave shape allow a good ventilation which favors the diffusion of aromas. It is perfect for the tasting of a Boulevardier when served without ice, a well-shaken Cosmopolitan or a Daiquiri. This cup is also excellent for dark drinks (cold coffee-based cocktails) such as Espresso Martini, or for a Margarita. In the last case, do not forget to put a little salt on the top of the glass for a “wow” effect!
Its vibrant orange/red color, the low-alcoholic recipe (with only 90 calories) and the universally loved taste, neither too sweet nor too bitter, are just a few of the many reasons why it is such a popular drink.
The Origins of the Italian Favourite Pre-Dinner Cocktail
Spritz has an incredible story of over two hundred years.
The favourite Italian pre-dinner cocktail is named after the German word “Spritzen” which means “splash”. Indeed, during the 19th century, when a part of Veneto was controlled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austrian soldiers used to add a “splash” of water or soda to their wine glasses, since they found local wines too strong.
In some traditional bars of that area, elderly people still ask for this kind of old-fashioned Spritz, composed by Prosecco wine diluted with soda or seltzer.
The modern version of the recipe was born later, in the early 20th century, when liqueurs like Aperol or Select were added to the drink. The success of Aperol was immediate, while Select was initially “an elite class product” of Venetian aristocrats.
In 2011, this particular recipe was made ‘official’ by IBA (International Bartenders Association), the most influent organization which represents barmen from all over the world. In the same year, Moscow Mule, a typical cocktail served in a copper mug was recognized and getting ready to become a real trend.
The original recipe of Spritz
The version of the Spritz codified by the IBA is 3:2:1. It contains 3 parts of Prosecco, 2 parts of Aperol and 1 part of soda.
90 ml Prosecco
60 ml Aperol
Splash of Soda water
Calories: 90 cal
The preparation method is simple: Fill the glass with ice; pour Prosecco wine (6cl), then Aperol (4cl) and soda water. Gently mix and then garnish using half a slice of orange.
Such a simple base makes the Spritz a very versatile cocktail and this allows a barman’s creativity to unleash.
Most popular Spritz variants
The "official" version of the Spritz codified by the IBA is the one prepared with Aperol Spritz, with a sweeter scent and an orange aftertaste. The most famous variants are those with Campari, Cynar and Select.
Spritz Campari / Bitter Spritz, a bitter drink
By replacing Aperol with Campari, you get a drink appreciated by those who prefer a slightly more alcoholic and amarotic taste. Process, proportions and garnish stay the same.
calories: 90 cal
Spritz Cynar, complex flavours
A white Spritz with the use of white wine instead of Prosecco. The aromatic notes of artichoke Bitter make it a pleasant alternative, where the bittersweetness of the vegetable, meets the freshness of white wine.

Spritz Veneziano, the right balance between sweet and bitter
Considered by many as "the real Venetian Spritz", it requires Select instead of Aperol, a citrus liqueur with a bright red color and a sweet taste, which is enhanced by the garnish with slices of orange or lemon.
Calories: 90 cal
One of the characteristics of the Spritz is its ability to always offer new scents by replacing the starting liqueur. For example, by varying the liqueur part with elderberry syrup and using mint leaves as a garnish we can get a Hugo: the perfect aperitif for the summer.
Calories: 150 cal
The arrival of the most famous Sambuco liqueur “St. Germain” has created a variant of the Hugo itself, which transforms it into St. Germain Hugo; in this case the recipe is 2 parts of Prosecco, 1 part of elderflower liqueur and 2 parts of soda water, with mint leaves and a lime wedge as a garnish.
Calories: 115 cal
In the city of Brescia, in the Northern Italy, Spritz has a curious and original reinterpretation, called "Pirlo". It is a Spritz made using a white still wine with a very delicate and fresh flavor. The "bubble" and the effervescence of the cocktail is given by adding carbonated mineral water.
The Passion Spritz, an exotic ready-to-drink aperitif
Among combinations to transform this iconic cocktail, one is particularly able to highlight flavors with tasty elements from exotic worlds.
The Passion Spritz is the perfect pre-dinner drink made by Spirito Cocktails for summer happy hours. This variant is obtained by combining an infusion of orange, alcohol and aromatic herbs, including rhubarb, cinchona, gentian, the best clear Caribbean rum aged 5 years, blended with a fresh maracuja juice.
The result is a ready-to-drink aperitif with an unexpected freshness and sweetness. It has a sweet initial taste and a bitter final one, in the tradition of the best Italian aperitifs.

]]>“Cocktail time is the pause between the errors and trials of the day and the hopes of the night.”- Herbert Hoover
Prima di pranzo non c'è niente di meglio di un bell’aperitivo con un Dry Martini, ricordando sempre che “one is little and more than two is too much!”

All’ora dell’aperitivo oppure after dinner, per rinfrescare la bocca dopo mangiato.

E a ragione.
